Email your MP to protect public servants

We have just learned that there will be a vote in parliament on Monday on a government plan to impose a crude cap on public sector exit payments.

I am writing to ask you to email your MP before Monday to ask them to vote against this plan.

Prospect opposes this plan as the government have refused to take basic steps to ensure that the cap operates fairly and effectively.

They have refused to take steps to exempt low earners from being caught in the cap.

They have refused to ensure that the cap is index linked so that it does not reduce in real terms over time.

They have refused to conduct and equality impact assessment.

They have refused to exclude pension strain payments and settlement agreements from the cap.

Overall this is a badly thought through piece of legislation that will arbitrarily punish members, including many who are not on high salaries.

We believe the severance terms for our members in the public sector should be determined by negotiations with Prospect- not crude legislative imposition.

Please urge your MP to vote against this plan on Monday.
